Youth Development Program: Scholarships awarded to poor Youths, for professional studies
We had a simple program on 28th September. It was attended by about forty people. The program was "Youth Development Program: Scholarships 2012-2013". We invited our friends, local villagers, four students (the recipients of the scholarships) and their families, the local head of the village, local Panchayat Ward member, and HELP board members etc.
The program lasted for about 1 hr and 30 minutes. It started with prayers by Mr. Robinson. After prayers we had our National Anthem sung by all, then followed two songs in praise of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
The President of our board, Mr. Manpal Singh gave a over all report of what HELP is doing in the region. It included a brief report on the HELP activites e.g. Sewing center program (Women Development Program), Tution Center for poor children (Children Development Program), Medical camps for the elderly, and cataract surgries for them, help for Disable people, Relief program in the hills etc.
After this, Mr. Raj Kumar (Chief Functionary) shared about the purpose of the "Scholarship Program" for the poor but intelligent students. It is to encourage them in the education and to help them achieve their professional career goals. The "Scholarship Program" is meant for those who support HELP ministries in their village, with their skills, e.g. teaching poor children in our tutoring centers, and helping in awareness meetings for the villagers.
A Bible verse from Proverbs was read and expounded:
Proverbs 19:2
King James Version (KJV) 2 Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth.
The students (recipients of the Scholarships) signed an agreement that when they become self supported one day, they will also help the Organization with their talents, skills and finances. The agreement also carried the signatures of the local village head, HELP's President and the Secretary.
The village chief (Pradhan jee) Mrs. Seema Devi appreciated our initiative to help their villagers. She said, "It's an excellent idea to help these very poor students. It is going to make their studies possible". The Ward member of the local Panchayat, Mr. Siyaram Chouhan added that we should help more students like these so that no one is left behind, from their successful life."
.
The Scholarships were distributed by the hands of the village head MrsSeema Devi, Ward member Mr. Siyaram Chouhan and District area member's husband Mr. Raj Kumar of Sabhawala village. The money was given in form of Check.
All four students Mr. Rajnish Kumar, Mr. Deepak Kumar, Mr. Joshua Singh, and Mr. Pintu Kumar said, thanks to us and our supporter.
After the program a small Refreshments (Cold drink, Samosa, and Laddu) was served.
The Hindi daily newspapers carried a brief story about us.
